Sometimes I aim low, sometimes I aim high.

Sometimes I rhyme slow, sometimes I rhyme quick.

Sometimes I start five new projects at once.

What I Did Today:

I’m a restless soul, and after sitting at a desk dreaming up new ways to market janitorial supplies for 8 hours a day, I have to go out to find new & exciting activities. I bought a house two years ago, and it came with the worst.walkway.ever. It’s wretched. I hate it.  I’ve decided to fix it. Right now it is made of red pavers, mulch, and brick. It reminds me of hopscotch, except hopscotch is fun (for a five year old) and my walkway is not.

I’m adding more pavers and taking away the brick so it looks like a real walkway. Why red pavers? Eventually I’m adding a patio in the back that will also be made of red pavers, and I’m the first owner of this house to know the definition of continuity. The yard has none, and I plan to give it some. I’d rather use slate, but it costs more cash.

not wretched

Yes, I know it isn’t perfectly level. I hate shoveling. & I’m not done, so shut it. It will look better when I’m finished because those bricks will be gone & there will be lighting & flowers & stuff. The patio will be level because I will hire someone to do that prep work for me. Next year. When I’ve saved enough money. My goal for the patio: awesome. My goal for the walkway: not wretched. Eventually I will improve upon this & get it level, but “not wretched” will do for now. I’m settling. The mulch has to go. Right now. Because I hate it. So I’m aiming low and celebrating mediocrity when this phase of the project is finished & the mulch is finally gone, daddy, gone.

If you want to know how to make an awesome walkway all by yourself, go here:

If you’re not concerned with awesomeness, do what I’m doing & skip half of those steps. Get finished faster by settling for less!

Today’s Fun Fact:

On today’s date (4/5) in 1998 – In Glasgow, Scotland, the Spice Girls performed their first show in the U.K.

Sing along, kids! Celebrate mediocrity!

In this section I’ll be featuring nifty things my friends do. Today’s rock star? Michelle. It’s her fault I started this whole thing. Michelle & Kresha run Vintage Jane. It is full of awesomeness.  Located in downtown Kernersville, this groovy little shop is filled with fun handmade & revamped accessories for your home and for your body. I’m talkin’ jewelry, clocks, aprons, trunks…the list goes on and on. Basically they make old stuff awesome. Every week something new appears, and most of the items (if not all) are one of a kind. You should check it out. You can find them on Facebook.  Celebrate awesomeness.

  1. I love your wit. “Get finished faster by settling for less” needs to be on a tshirt. I’d buy one for Jon since that seems to be his motto around the house. 🙂 Thanks for making me a rock star for a day and giving Vintage Jane a shout out.
